Management
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Greenhouse is CEO of Avenir Minerals, a position he assumed in 2025. He is also Vice President, Critical & Strategic Minerals at Agnico Eagle. Previous roles held at Agnico Eagle include Vice President, Strategic Development (2022 – 2024), Vice President, Corporate Development & Business Strategy (2020 – 2022) and Vice President, Business Strategy (2018 – 2020).
Prior to joining Agnico Eagle in 2013, Mr. Greenhouse was the CFO of a junior mining company and worked in various roles at RBC Capital Markets’ Fixed Income and Currency trading floor.
Mr. Greenhouse holds a Master of Science degree in Accounting and Finance (London School of Economics and Political Science, UK) and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce (McMaster University). He also holds designations as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) (Institute of Management Accountants – USA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) (CFA Institute).
Vice-President, Technical Operations
Mr. Blatter is Vice President, Technical Operations at Avenir Minerals. He is a mineral processing engineer with extensive experience in project evaluation, process development and metallurgical operations.
Since joining Agnico Eagle, Mr. Blatter has held progressively senior technical roles, including metallurgist, project metallurgist on projects in Québec, Finland and Mexico, and Technical Superintendent at the LaRonde mine. From 2012 – 2013, he served as Metallurgy Director for the Kipawa rare‑earth project, where he led flowsheet development and metallurgical testing. From 2013 – 2016, he acted as Process Lead for the Greenstone Gold Project feasibility study, which is now in operation.
Mr. Blatter rejoined Agnico Eagle in 2017 with a focus on technical strategy, process innovation and project evaluation. He has been actively involved with the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) at both the Québec and national levels.
Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability
Mr. Lavoie is Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Avenir Minerals. He is a seasoned mining professional with more than 20 years of experience in environmental management, stakeholder relations and strategic planning.
Mr. Lavoie began his career at Agnico Eagle in 2002, holding various operational and environmental stewardship roles at the LaRonde mine. From 2012 – 2014, he served as Director of Sustainability at Richmont Mines, contributing to improved environmental and operational performance. In 2014, he joined the Canadian Malartic Complex, where he played a key role in strengthening environmental and social performance.
Mr. Lavoie returned to Agnico Eagle in 2017, assuming corporate roles in environmental affairs and later supporting operations in Nunavut through shared services. Prior to joining Avenir Minerals, he was Corporate Director, Business Strategy, where he supported strategic planning and government relations initiatives.
Director, Evaluation and Exploration
Mr. Houle is Director, Assessment and Exploration at Avenir Minerals. He is a geologist with more than 30 years of experience specializing in mineral exploration and project evaluation across the Americas, Europe and Australasia.
Prior to joining Agnico Eagle in 2013, Mr. Houle held senior technical roles at several mining companies, including Teck and Falconbridge, where he worked extensively on precious and base metals projects.
Mr. Houle holds a Master’s degree in Mineral Exploration and Mineral Economics from
Queen’s University.
Board of Directors
Chair of the Board
Mr. Boyd serves Chair of the Board of Avenir Minerals and Chair of the Board of Agnico Eagle. Prior to his appointed of Chair of Agnico Eagle, he was the Executive Chair of the Board from February 2022 until his retirement in December 2023, and Vice Chairman and Agnico Eagle’s CEO from 1998 to 2022. Before his appointment as CEO, Mr. Boyd served as the Chief Financial Officer from 1990 to 1998 and Comptroller from 1985 to 1990.
During Mr. Boyd’s tenure as CEO, Agnico Eagle grew from a small, single mine gold producer to a multi-mine international gold mining company. In December 2020, the Globe and Mail ROB Magazine recognized him as its Global Visionary of the Year CEO. He was recognized as The Northern Miner’s Mining Person of the Year in 2007 and 2017, and appeared on the list of The Best-Performing CEOs in the World in the Harvard Business Review in 2010, 2016 and 2017. In 2019, Mr. Boyd was recognized by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario) as a Fellow, the highest honour bestowed upon a CPA within the accounting profession. In 2021, he received the degree Doctor of Laws honoris causa, from St. Francis Xavier University (Nova Scotia). In recognition of his contributions to the mining industry, Mr. Boyd was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in 2025.
Mr. Boyd served on the Board of Directors of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (2013-2022). He has also served on the Boards of the World Gold Council and the St. Francis Xavier University Board of Governors.
Prior to joining Agnico Eagle in 1985, Mr. Boyd was an accountant with Clarkson Gordon
(Ernst & Young). He is a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant (FCPA, FCA) and a graduate
of the University of Toronto (B.Comm.).
Director
Mr. Scherkus is a mining professional with more than 48 years of experience in the mining industry. He spent 27 years with Agnico Eagle, where he began his career as Project manager for the LaRonde project in Abitibi (Quebec), participating in its discovery and construction, and contributing to the establishment of Agnico Eagle’s foundations.
Mr. Scherkus subsequently served as Director of the LaRonde mine and later as President and Chief Operating Officer of Agnico Eagle. In these roles, he played a key part in the development of several major mining operations, including the Kittila, Lapa, Goldex, Meadowbank and Pinos Altos mines, as Agnico Eagle transitioned from a single-mine producer to an international multi-mine gold company.
Mr. Scherkus has also served as President of the Quebec Mining Association, Director of Richmont Mines Limited, Executive Chair of Premier Gold Mines Limited and President of Stornoway Diamond Corporation Limited.
In recognition of his contributions to the mining industry, Mr. Scherkus was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in 2020.
Director
Mr. Christie served as Vice President, Investor Relations at Agnico Eagle from 2012 – 2022. Prior to joining Agnico Eagle, Mr. Christie worked for more than 17 years in the investment industry, primarily as a mining analyst specializing in precious and base metals at Desjardins Securities, National Bank Financial, Canaccord Capital and HSBC Securities.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Christie spent 13 years in the mining industry as a geologist for several companies, including Homestake, Billiton, Falconbridge Copper and Newmont Mining.
Mr. Christie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Toronto and a Master’s degree in Geology from Queen’s University.
Director
Mr. O’Toole is a recognized public policy and geopolitical leader with extensive experience in government and international affairs.
Mr. O’Toole served as a federal Member of Parliament for a decade, including as Leader of the Official Opposition from 2020 – 2022. In 2021, he was the Conservative Party’s candidate for Prime Minister of Canada.
During his time in government, Mr. O’Toole held senior cabinet and parliamentary roles, including Parliamentary Secretary for International Trade and Minister of Veterans Affairs. He contributed to major international trade negotiations, including the Canada-European Union Trade Agreement.
Early in his career, Mr. O’Toole served as an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following his military service, he worked as a corporate lawyer and business advisor. In 2025, Mr. O’Toole was named a Distinguished Fellow at the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C.
